Toward a Unified Explanation for the Three-part Structure of Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

چکیده

Abstract Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are associated with the eruption of magnetic flux ropes (MFRs), which usually appear as hot channels in active regions and coronal cavities quiet-Sun regions. CMEs often exhibit a classical three-part structure lower corona when imaged white-light coronagraphs, including bright front, dark cavity, core. For several decades, core cavity have been regarded erupted prominence MFR, respectively. However, recent studies clearly demonstrated that both hot-channel MFR can be observed CME The current research presents resulting from on 2010 October 7, observations two vantage perspectives, i.e., edge-on Earth face-on Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO). Our illustrate important results: (1) for first time, erupting is recorded channel-like extreme-ultraviolet passband, analogous to morphology, dubbed warm channel; (2) warm-channel (coronal cavity) passbands evolve into coronagraphs STEREO-A. results suggest we working toward unified explanation CMEs, prominences MFRs (hot or channels) responsible

A Model for Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

We propose a new model for the initiation of a solar coronal mass ejection (CME). The model agrees with two properties of CMEs and eruptive Ñares that have proved to be very difficult to explain with previous models : (1) very low-lying magnetic Ðeld lines, down to the photospheric neutral line, can open toward inÐnity during an eruption ; and (2) the eruption is driven solely by magnetic free ...

Periodicities in Solar Coronal Mass Ejections

Mid-term quasi-periodicities in solar coronal mass ejections (CMEs) during the most recent solar maximum cycle 23 are reported here for the first time using the fouryear data (February 5, 1999 to February 10, 2003) of the Large Angle Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). In parallel, mid-term quasi-periodicities in solar X-ray flares (class >M5...

Periodicities in the occurrence of solar coronal mass ejections

Recent overwhelming evidences (Hiremath 2009a and references there in) show that sun indeed strongly influences the earth’s climate and environment. In addition to well known sunspot activity, right from the era of discovery by Galileo, other activity phenomena such as flares and coronal mass ejections are also the main drivers that input vast amount of energy, mass and momentum into the earth’...

Coronal Mass Ejections

A coronal mass ejection (CME) is an eruption of billions of tonnes of magnetically charged plasma from a star’s corona. The material ejected is sent into interplanetary space where it eventually dissipates. Should the material collide with a planet then that planet’s electro-magnetic field would be temporarily disrupted. If the Earth’s electro-magnetic field were disrupted by a large CME then p...

Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Two Solar Coronal Mass Ejections Using the STEREO Spacecraft

Previous attempts to produce three-dimensional (3-D) reconstructions of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have required either modeling efforts or comparisons with secondary associated eruptions near the solar surface. This is because coronagraphs are only able to produce sky-plane-projected images of CMEs and it has hence been impossible to overcome projection effects by using coronagraphs alone. ...
